2019 Draft Day Preview
Re: 2019 Draft Day Preview
Great read, Mike.
Will be interesting to see what the 2 new owners do. They definately will have an impact if this years draft gets crazy or not. Hopefully not.

they also have one foot in retirement: Evan Longoria, Jason Heyward, Jason Kipnis, Eric Hosmer, Jay Bruce, and Yonder Alonso
I know Longoria, Heyward and Hosmer still have 4-5 years left on their MLB contracts... BUT, I know what you mean: they are are clearly on the downslopes of their careers and its all the more frightening that it feels like they just started! #weareold

Re: 2019 Draft Day Preview
This is like my entire team! Seems like the window to win is about to close.
How does the Class of 2020 look at this point?
Next year's class looks much better balanced in terms of quality hitting and pitching. The hitting side is led by three major names: Christian Yelich, J.D. Martinez, and Giancarlo Stanton. The class also includes Kolten Wong, Justin Upton, Marcel Ozuna, Jed Lowrie, Scooter Gennett, Matt Kemp, Khris Davis, Lorenzo Cain, Robinson Cano, and Carlos Gonzalez.
The pitching side features two big aces in Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. The class also includes J.A. Happ, Aroldis Chapman, Kenley Jansen, Rick Porcello, Corey Kluber, Masahiro Tanaka, Dellin Betances, Rich Hill, James Paxton, Trevor Bauer, and David Price.

Quick rules question, anyone auctioned for more than the type H cut off, are you required to sign to a multi year deal?

Any type H acquired in the auction has to be signed to a minimum of 2 years.

18.16 Any player with an initial salary of more than $5 million must be signed to a minimum of a two-year contract at the end of the current season. (Note: these players are called "Type H" players.) Once a "Type H" player plays three years under the same contract (his options year, plus the first two years of his contract), he is no longer considered to be a "Type H" player.
18.17 A "Type H" player may be released if he qualifies for the Rule 18.11(b) escape clause. A team may also release a "Type H" player if a penalty is paid that equals the player's total salary.
18.18 A "Type H" player may not be traded from the time he is signed to the final (Chapter Four) trading deadline of the season in which he is signed.

I ask this every year!
Soon I will reveal that Lee is a fictitious character I created solely to ask this question so I won't look foolish.

Re: 2019 Draft Day Preview
Good read Mike. One correction - Scherzer won the Cy Young award after signing with the Sea Cats.
