Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
If you can wait until the absolute last minute to let Tony in on the outcome of Buckingham vs great lakes I would appreciate it. He's simultaneously being super annoying and a giant jerk. Please make him suffer

Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
I didn't even realize it was a thing. I only pay attention to the Ozzie League.
Buckingham took 3/4 from Great Lakes. Which, I guess, means that Charlotte has clinched that coveted second wildcard spot!
Or...hold the phone...they may end up with the top spot, depending on how Bobby finishes the season. But of course, Bobby has barely played any of his games this chapter, being in the Eck League and all, so we'll have to wait until the last day of the season to find out the thrilling conclusion!
Current standings:
St. Louis: 84-64 (.568)
Southern Cal: 90-70 (.563)
Charlotte: 90-70 (.563)
Technically, it's a three-way tie at this point. If you care about home-field advantage in that one-game playoff, Charlotte went 5-7 against St. Louis and...wait a minute for me to double-check this number...yep, it's accurate...10-2! against Southern Cal.
So...if Bobby goes 5-7 over his final dozen games, then he becomes the #2 wildcard team, but earns home-field advantage over Charlotte in the one-game playoff.
If Bobby goes 6-6 or better, he wins the division (since he went 9-7 against his old man), and Charlotte gets the home field advantage over SoCal in the one-game wildcard.

Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
Thank you for the lovely summary Michael. Actually if St Louis goes 5-7 , Charlotte still gets the WC home field because we'll have a better overall record. But if St Louis and So Cal tie, don't they play a tie breaker game since it's for a division title?

Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
Well...this is the rule, but it doesn’t seem right:
“14.2 Should two teams finish in a tie for the wild card or division, these teams will play a one-game playoff to determine the winner. ”
I’m almost positive two teams tied for the division lead in the past, but we didn’t make them play one game to decide the winner, because it didn’t matter, as they both made the playoffs. Maybe I’m thinking of MLB?

Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
I think it should be a series instead of a 1 game playoff. Nobody wants that
Where there is a Gill, there is a way
Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
The ONLY selling point of a wildcard “series” is that it would give a division winner an advantage. Turn the wildcard series into a best of 3/5 and that advantage disappears.
I’m SO glad it’s all irrelevant now in the BDBL.

Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
I'd also like to note that the Eck League played this season correctly because even w a single WC, Bob and I would have had a one game playoff to determine which team would make the playoffs. So
Way to mess up Ozzie League.

No chance I'm gonna win 6 games with this roster. Zero chance at all.

Sylmar and San Antonio tied for the division at 91-69 in 2005. Because the loser of the division race would have been the Wild Card, no playoff game was play and the division was awarded to Sylmar based on season H2H (Sylmar won, 10-6). Not that I'm bitter or anything.
Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
So I’m not crazy.
It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to force a one-game playoff when both teams end up in the playoffs anyway.

Re: Unplayed Series for 2019
It's spelled out here.
Rulebook wrote:14.2(c) If two teams finish the regular season tied for the division lead, and no playoff game or tournament is necessary (since both teams make the playoffs uncontested), the official "Division Champion" will be the team with the greater head-to-head record. If a tie exists, the division winner will be the team with the greatest disparity between runs scored and runs allowed. If a tie still exists, the two teams will be declared co-champions.
