November 18, 2000 The Cliff and Larry Show STAMFORD, CT - The Los Altos Undertakers may be overmatched in this series, but they will not be swept. After losing the first two games of this Ozzie League Championship Series, the Undertakers fought back for an 8-3 victory against one of Stamford's tri-aces, Kevin Brown. Cliff Floyd went 5-for-5 on the day, with four runs scored, and Larry Walker drove in three runs on two homers. The scoring began in the second inning when Floyd led off with a base hit. A Brett Mayne double put him on third. He then scored on a base hit by Hanley "Hit Man" Frias. After an intentional pass to Bill Mueller, Los Altos starter Ismael Valdes (playing perhaps his last game as an Undertaker) executed a nifty safety squeeze, giving Los Altos another run. Stamford fought back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on a double by Luis "Four-Hole" Polonia and a base hit by Magglio Ordonez. But Los Altos got the run back in the third on doubles by Floyd and Mayne. Valdes benefitted from crucial double plays in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Frias then knocked home another run in the fifth, giving the Under- takers a 4-1 lead. Back-to-back homers by Walker and Floyd made it a 7-1 game in the sixth. Final score: 8-3.
