Roberto Alomar is "Knighted" Shark Triple-A Posted 05-27-02 07:18 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks like the Eck League got a little more interesting. Alomar to the Knights in the latest Hammerhead rebuilding effort WHILE still competing for the wildcard. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- trcdoc6 Rookie Posted 05-27-02 08:12 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Knights have announced that they have acquired Roberto Alomar for the 2nd half of the season. Moving to Marlboro in exchange for Alomar are Luis Castillo and Marlon Byrd. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BDBLcommish Head Honcho Posted 05-27-02 08:56 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sharky - you're kidding about still competing for the wild card, right? Marlon Byrd and Luis Castillo?? Is that really the going rate for Robbie Alomar?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ridgebacks Triple-A Posted 05-27-02 09:17 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's all I can stands and I can't stands no more!!! I think Marlboro is trying to avoid the dreaded "wimp" designation that gets delivered to owners who, while still in the race, have bailed out and decided to rebuild. Well I've held off long enough on Marlboro, HE WIMPED OUT OF THE RACE. Besides the latest Alomar deal, Marlboro has traded: 20 game winner Jamie Moyer, Daubach, Javier Vazquez, Jason Johnson, and Jarrod Washburn (THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOME ROTATION) FOR Bobby Brownlie (college player), Chad Bradford, Ryan Christianson (a minor league catcher), Ben Sheets, Bud Smith, and Cesar Izturis. Bleeding a team to death is the same as blatantly dumping all of its talent. Whew, I had to get that off my chest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike S./Rocks Triple-A Posted 05-27-02 09:44 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sharky is trying the same line that the Cleveland Indians are trying and miserably failing at -- competing while rebuilding. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shark Triple-A Posted 05-27-02 10:27 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So what is the going rate for a "3-Chapter" rental player? I thought I did real well in getting a replacement for 2B. Switch hitter, .386 OBP (.395 vs. RHs), league leader in SBs - batting .402 and .447/.448/.895 in May and is back to 2000 form and perfect #2 hitter behind Ichiro next year AND a concensus Top 20 prospect with a real shot at getting into the majors and making an impact by this summer. ....but I guess not. My "re-building" is complete. I have a filled lineup and No. 3 & 4 starters in Sheets and Ponson and a strong pen. Now I can use my $25+ million in next year's draft to get my #1 and #1A SPs. At the same time I can still compete this year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Predators Double-A Posted 05-28-02 02:19 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have to call them like I see them...the Sharks have folded this season. Try to convince us otherwise Sharky...we could all use the laugh. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ridgebacks Triple-A Posted 05-28-02 05:39 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No one is arguing that you're setting yourself up pretty well for next year. Just don't try to get away with saying you're still trying to compete this year when you trade Alomar for Castillo. The only recourse teams have against teams who pack it in is some random abuse. Don't try to take that away from us. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shark Triple-A Posted 05-28-02 07:03 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Compete? Trying too, not giving up completely. I didn't trade all my stars for pure prospects. I saw that my division was on the weak side so I figured I would take a chance and rebuild and try to compete at the same time for the wildcard (ie. getting Sheets, Smith and Castillo instead of all farm players). When Mike starting running off with the division early and can pull off trades during the season to strengthen his team even more I knew my only shot was the wildcard. You say I traded away all my talent but did you see what that talent was doing for me? Washburn was up in the 6's in ERA, Johnson sucked, Alomar has done nothing for me for 3 chapters. Moyer started off real slow. Daubach was getting no playing time. I needed to make changes for next year or I had no shot for another season as well - losing Alomar, Moyer and Washburn plus would have had only about $10m in cap space during a deep draft. Trying my best. Funny part is I traded Alomar OUT of my division so he would not hurt me AND because I figured I would get less grief from the commish for helping one of his competitors, guess I was wrong. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BDBLcommish Head Honcho Posted 05-28-02 08:00 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sharky, thank you for not trading Alomar to the Zoots. Feel better? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BDBLcommish Head Honcho Posted 05-28-02 04:38 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found this quote while rummaging around on the History page and couldn't resist posting it: "And watch out next year boys....... With a starting rotation of Vazquez, Rusch, Armas, Stein, Eaton and Tavarez (all capable of over 200+ innings) and an offense w/ Posada, Varitek, Nevin, Guillen, Lugo, Grudzy, Olerud, Conine, Jenkins, Ichiro, Burks, Bradley & Timo Perez.....and the best part, what could be a dominating co-closers in Mantei and Urbina, plus the white hot prospect in Zambrano (19 and could be in the Cubs starting rotation), plus potential good LH relievers in Reyes and Jones, and not counting Acevedo. You are looking at a full roster AND over $20 million going into next years draft for only a couple of players. WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!" - Ken "The Shark" Kaminski, 3/20/01 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shark Triple-A Posted 05-28-02 06:18 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [2002 version] "And watch out next year boys....... With a back of the rotation of Sheets, Ponson, Redman (all capable of over 200+ innings) plus 2 studs I will draft and an offense w/ Posada, Konerko, Guillen, Lowell, Sierra, Ichiro, Encarnacion, Castillo and Finley.....and the best part, what could be a dominating set-up man in Bradford and great co-closers in Graves and Urbina plus the white hot prospect in Byrd (could be in the Phils OF by mid-season), plus potential good LH relievers in Reyes and Matthews, and not counting DeJean. You are looking at a full roster AND over $26 million going into next years draft for only a couple of players. WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!" - Ken "The Shark" Kaminski, 5/28/02 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Undertakers Double-A Posted 05-28-02 06:21 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My favorite part of the Shark's post is: "Alomar has done nothing for me for 3 chapters. Moyer started off real slow." Alomar only leads his team in RBI's with 39 and 2nd in runs scored with 33. If that's nothing...then I'll take a whole lot of nothing for my team. And Jamie Moyer was 6-3 with a 3.39 ERA. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike S./Rocks Triple-A Posted 05-28-02 06:22 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That 2001 comment sounds like a good reason to trade all your prospects every year for a run at the present! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shark Triple-A Posted 05-28-02 06:47 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For a $10m player with Alomar's stats he was not performing up to what I "paid for" and Moyer pitched 4 great games AFTER I already traded him. At the time of the trade he had 2 wins and a 5.20+ ERA. So you want to hear it? OK "I'm out!! NO chance to get past the Commish or the Zoots. I NEVER beat them, ever. I am building for next year and the future and I have now accomplished that." Feel better :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ridgebacks Triple-A Posted 05-28-02 06:55 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bitterness, the tension, the anger. It brings a tear to my eyes. This is the best league on the internet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BDBLcommish Head Honcho Posted 05-28-02 08:57 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom, I couldn't agree with you more. You can't get entertainment like this anywhere else at any price. Watching The Shark waffle back and forth every year, always building for next year, helping out the Zoots whenever he can just to twist the knife a little further into my back...is priceless!
