Topic: ...and Barry Bonds goes to... 01-03-03 10:07 PM BDBLcommish ...the Cleveland Rocks! The Allentown Ridgebacks lost by $500k! Whew! I came *thisclose* to giving my annual "The Season is Over" speech! THANK YOU, MIKE STEIN!!! 01-03-03 10:41 PM BDBLcommish Okay, now that all is said and done, fill us in, Mike. Why did you do it? What's your plan for Bonds? How high were you willing to go? Where do you go from here? Inquiring minds want to know! 01-03-03 10:46 PM Shark Mike, did you go $17m? huh? I was at $16.5 and ready to hit the "submit" button at around 9:45 but had to carry my son up to bed, on the way down something told me "$16m". I actually dropped it to $16m. Would have had him at $16.5 over you (1 place in the standings), if you didn't go $17m+. PLEASE TELL ME YOU WENT $17M! Make me feel much better. 01-03-03 11:03 PM BDBLcommish Um...nope. What you see on "bid history" is what you get. I went to $16m. I just couldn't go any higher. Curiosity killed the cat, but hesitation killed The Shark. 01-03-03 11:06 PM STMZoots Not for anything, but I'm glad NEITHER of you got him and even happier that Allentown swung and missed. Its like Christmas all over again in Stamford. 01-03-03 11:09 PM Ridgebacks Don't start partying in Stamford just yet. Jim Edmonds would look mighty fine in Ridgeback colors.... 01-04-03 01:05 AM Mike S./Rocks Thank you, thank you very much. Finding out I get Bonds after watching Ohio State win the national title makes for one sweet evening. Actually, knowing I was going to be gone for the evening watching the game, I put a bid of $18 mil in. I had already put a max bid of $16 in, but I had him at $15.5 so I would lose if anyone else bid. I figured he would actually go higher than $18 -- and I also figure he is a bargain at $15.5 but still worth $18. I'll gladly take him at $18 even though it depletes my budget severely. I also predict that at least one player, maybe two, go for more money than Bonds. I know I am not going to build an offense with quality at every spot. So I will try to build around the best offensive force and hope I have enough pitching. It worked for the Giants -- they had Bonds & Kent and a bunch of goofballs around them!
