Game Three recap, by Tom DiStefano: Oswalt vs Woody Williams. First, let me thank all the Ozzie league teams who have traded Jason Giambi, Robbie Alomar, Jason Schmidt, Arthur Rhodes, Bernie Williams, Tony Graffanino, Scott Shields, Magglio Ordonez, Chris Gomez, and Woody Williams to Akron. I appreciate it. Please refrain from f’ing up the Eck League playoffs next year. Thanks. Oswalt throws 7.0 fantastic innings (allowing only 1 run on a Magglio Ordonez homer). However, Woody Williams matched him allowing 1 run over 5 and the Akron bullpen took over from there. The score remained tied heading to the top of the 8th when I brought in Hendrickson (Tony, can I have Chad Moeller back please?). Graffanino k’d. Bernie Williams then singled and Magglio Ordonez followed up with an RBI double. The rest is just a blur (actually, I can’t figure out what happened based on my notes, I need to see the boxscore). Suffice it to say that with Akron up 2-1, Gagne came in to face Scott Rolen with the bases loaded and 1 out. I needed a strikeout in this situation in order to keep this thing close and I figured Gagne was my guy against the big righty. Gagne threw 1 pitch and Rolen hit it 14 rows deep into the left field stands. Sit down, Eric. It’s mopup time…… Game Three recap, by D.J. Shepard: Game 3: I'm a bit worried about having Williams go in this one. I have yet to hit Oswalt well in two years, and Woody didn't fare all that well against Allentown this year. Shows how much I know. Allentown strikes first on a walk to Koskie, single from Bonds, and a single from Manny. Woody is matching Roy pitch-for-pitch, but he's also piling up the pitches. Going into the 6th, I have Shields ready in the pen. When Woody walks McGriff to open the 6th, I pull him. DP and k and he's out of it. In the bottom of the 7th, Tom sends Jenkins up to PH hit for Oswalt. I do a little dance. Shields gets Jenkins, but walks Spivey. And here comes the power. Rhodes comes in to get Koskie to tap back to the box, but only gets the force at 2nd. Up comes Bonds, and Rhodes k's him. Hendrickson starts the 8th by k'ing Graffanino. Then Bernie singles and Ordonez pulls one right down the 3rd base line into the corner for a double. Bernie rounds 3rd and now I have a choice to make. His AV running against Bonds' AV arm. One out. Giambi up next will probably get walked to load them up and then I have Burks up with Worrell or Gagne coming in. I decide to send him. Damian Jackson's relay throw is into the runner and gets away. Bernie scores and Ordonez gets to 3rd with still only one out. Tom brings in Worrell, puts Giambi on, and then Burks works a walk to load them up. Gagne comes in and Rolen greets his first pitch by smacking it over the wall. Tom then brings in a not warmed up Rodriguez. Varitek walks, wild pitch gets him to second. Garcia flies out. A passed ball sends the runner to 3rd and Vizcaino singles him in. Another wild pitch sends Vizcaino to 2nd, but Graffanino k's to end it. Embree and Adams set down the last 6 in order.
