Game Four recap, by Tom DiStefano: Schilling vs Pedro. Oddly, this was the first time since game 1 (where he only threw 54 pitches) that Pedro was ready to go. This one quickly turned into “The Pedro Martinez Show”. Through 7 innings, Pedro had allowed only 2 hits, 1 BB, and had k’d 10. For me, the game was just a barrage of strikeouts and groundouts. It was awful. On my side, Schilling was fantastic going 8 innings himself and allowing 1 run (Magglio Ordonez rbi double) on 3 hits and a walk. With Akron up 1-0 in the 8th, Pedro was set to face LoDuca, Schilling, and Spivey. He was right around 95 pitches at this point. Geoff Jenkins pinch hit for LoDuca and flied out. Craig Wilson then hit for Schilling and singled. Spivey k’d (Martinez 11th) for out #2. By now, Pedro was up around 113 pitches with Koskie up and Bonds on deck (with Rhodes up in the pen). On a 3 and 2 pitch, Koskie JUST pulled a home run FOUL down the right field line. On the next pitch, he walked bringing up Bonds to the plate (see stats below). 2 outs, runners on first and second, 1-0 score. DJ decides to pull Pedro (who finished with 119 pitches) in favor of Arthur Rhodes. And BAM! Bonds hits a 3-run homer for the Allentown win! Wow. Game Four recap, by D.J. Shepard: Game 4: Both pitchers are dealing. Schilling gets the first 5, before a walk to Rolen and a Varitek single. No damage done though. Pedro gets the first 10, 6 on k's, and his pitch count is pretty low. This is exactly what I wanted to see. Koskie and Bonds with back-to-back one-out singles in the 4th, but Pedro gets out of it. In the 3rd, a one-out single from Vizcaino followed by a two-out double from Ordonez makes it 1-0. Schilling then retires the next 16 in a row. With 2 outs in the 6th, Pedro hits Koskie and walks Bonds. Manny k's to end the threat though. Pedro gets the next 4, before a one-out PH single from Wilson in the 8th. The pitch count is right around 100 now, and Rhodes and Koch are getting ready. Spivey has already k'd three times, so I leave Pedro in to k him a 4th time. Now I'm really torn on what to do, but I decide to stick with Pedro. When Koskie drills a 3-2 pitch just foul down the RF line, I almost bring Rhodes in right then. I stick with pedro and he ends up walking him. Bonds up and I don't hesitate, in comes Rhodes. The count is 2-1 and Rhodes throws a pitch outside that Varitek knocks down preventing any advance. 3-1 now, and I kind of figure with the way Bonds walks, that it will end up being a walk. Boy, was I wrong. Next pitch, GONE! Koch comes in to k Manny to end the inning, too late though.Gagne comes in to get the first two in the 9th before Giambi singles. I PH Garcia for Burks hoping for a game-tying blast. Bouncer to third. Series tied at 2, when it was so close to being 3-1. That one really hurt.
