Game Four summary, by Paul Marazita Game 4: Millwood vs. Wakefield (fully rested after starting Game 1 and pitching 67 pitches w/ AV durability...I was a little surprised to tell you the truth) A MUST-win game for the Zoots, obviously, and it does not start well. Weather report. Cloudy and a THIRTY mph wind out to dead center. Uh oh. The wind immediately pays dividends for BCJ. Bell and Thome go back to back in first inning off of a shellshocked Millwood. 2-0 BCJ. But, in second, Ortiz singles and Alfonzo ties it with 2-run shot. 2-2. Both sides strand runner after runner in next few innings. Both pitchers living VERY dangerously. At end of 5 innings, Millwood already up to 99 pitches...Wakefield in 80's (if memory serves). Still 2-2 game. In Top of 6th, Fox leads off with HR (making up for the Henderson shot in Game 3). McCracken K's. Then Edmonds hits 4th HR of the series to put Zoots up 4-2. Chipper walks. Ortiz flies out. Looks like inning is pretty much over. However, Alfonzo singles and Lieberthal walks. Bases loaded, 2 outs. He goes to Mecir -- probably thinking I would not pinch hit for my best defensive middle infielder (Cora) with two outs. But that's why I am me. Woodward steps up to face Mecir. Two-run single. 6-2 Zoots. Fox comes up for second time in inning -- 2-run double...8-2 Zoots. Lieberthal finishes the scoring in the 8th with HR off of Paronto. The Zoots win the must-win game, 9-2. Even up the series 2 games to 2.
