Therefore, the league will never truly be GREAT until Mike gets the opportunity to revenge the CBL of old!Creation of a intertown rivalry between two New Milford Greats!!

Reason why: Hello,My name is Jeff Paulson and I am writing because I just finished looking at your web page and I am very interested in joining your diamond mind baseball league if you still have an opening for a new manager.I am 22 years old and currently a senior at the University of Oregon who will be graduating in just a few months. I have several years of experience playing diamond mind baseball, including playing the old strato-matic board game. Between the ages of 14-18, I played in several diamond mind leagues. At the time, I was competing against otherplayers who were in there late 20's early 30's, so I learned quickly how to compete against serious players.I left to go to college and since then I have yet to find a league to play in. I have never been in a league that used the internet (all of the leagues I played in were head to head at friends houses). However I have a lot of internet experience, so I don't see this being a problem.I am a huge baseball fan and I really miss competing at Diamond mind baseball. I consider myself to be very knowledgeable of the game and a very good manger. I am also a person who does not quit, even if my team is out of the race.If you are looking for more players, please give me some consideration. You will not be disappointed.Thank you very much,Jeff Paulsonjpmile@gladstone.uoregon.edu

FB Experience: In high school and college I commissioned several sim seasons using the Strat-o-Matic board game. Also, I attempted to run a Rotisserie league in high school way back in 1988, people just didn't get it back then (at least not my high school buddies). I am currently a member of a DMB League, however, this league is entirely simed on the commisioners computer. And I've been dying to get into a league where I actually get to manage my team (play some of the games).
Reason why: Having commissioned several leagues I know well the importance of reliable owners. I love baseball, I was heart broken back in that 1981 season too. And my first Strat0matic game was bought back then. I'm relatively new to the Computer sim world, but have been playing DMB for about a year and I'm comfortable with its interface.I also have, in my opinion, a fair amount of baseball knowledge having played 4 years of NCAA ball, and a short stint in the independent minor leagues. Last spring, I worked with the pitchers/catchers of one of the local high schools. In conclusion, I'm miserable now that the baseball season is over, and am looking forward to working on a draft strategy so I can be doing something to do with baseball.

Reason why: Your league needs an old guy that everyones thinks they can beat up on and I need a league that looks like its here to stay and is made up of a bunch of guys who think baseball started with Junior, Sosa, and McGwire.

Reason why: After reviewing the league by-laws, it appears that we would make a good match, as I enjoy competing against devoted baseball people in an environment requiring knowledge in all aspects of the "game". My mathematics/computer/accounting background is a natural fit with the most exciting part of baseball ~ analyzing the numbers. In addition, the years spent as a player (little league through college) and coach/umpire/director of little league provides me with first-hand experience of what baseball is really all about. As such, I pride myself in being proficient not only in the evalution of MLB talent, but also in the playing strategies involved with the game itself. While I prefer the tradional things: grass, day games, no DH/inter-league play, I also understand the unfortunate realities involved: money talks so teams that "pay" continue to play. With all this said, the most important attribute I can provide to the league is that of just being a hard-core baseball fan. Therefore, it would be expected that the Spoilers would add to the levels of competiveness and competence desired in the BDBL.

FB Experience: 1971- My first fantasy baseball game was called Sports Illustrated Baseball. 1973 - Started playing Stat-o-matic andplayed it on a off for 24 yrs. 1988 - I too played Earl Weaver for 3 yrs until we moved on to PTP for a year. 1992 - back to Strat until I left a league that I was part of for 9 yrs. I guess I was always looking for the best game on the market and finally found it in Diamond Mind Baseball. I wasn't able to get the others to leave Strat for DMB but I knew I had to do it. Last year was my first year in a DMB league and loved it. The biggest problem was trying to find a start-up league. I took over a team in a DMB league last year and had a blast. Now I just want to play with my own team and not take over someone elses problems.
Reason why: I would love to be part of a new league and help build it into the best DMB league out there. I love everything about baseball and baseball leagues. I've built so many great friendships over the years just from the love of baseball sim's. After reading your rules, the "meet the commish" section and seeing that the nucleus of the league had been friends for years I just felt this was a league I wanted to be part of. Additionally, I'm never late with my games, very competitive, love to talk baseball strategy, talk trade and play the best game on the market. Finally, I can't think of many more exciting things than DRAFT DAY. I hope you will consider my application.Thank you,Kevin

If things aren't going good, I'll keep plugging away and gear up for next year. (would ya expect anything different from a TRUE Tribe fan??? anyone remember '48???) Love competition...bragging rights are what it's all about. It doesn't get any better than beating a good buddy at something and being able to run some smack as long as possible! Plus, it's put up or shut up time for me. Spend MANY nights listening to the radio while at work questioning the "intelligence" and decisions of the "experts". I'm ready to find out if I have a true gauge on my baseball knowledge. I think I have what it takes to succeed in a competitive league like this....it's time to find out.

Reason why: You're cornering the market on Pepsi workers, how about Ernsts from Iowa ? My brother is Dave Ernst from Cedar Rapids.I'd like to join your league because I'm looking for a new baseball challenge.I've talked with my brother, who has a lot of computer baseball experience , and he thinks I'd really enjoy this brand of baseball. Unlike my brother though, for me baseball came to life in the late 60's with Lou Brock, Julian Javier, Bob Gibson and the rest of the 67 Cardinals. In '69 I switched over to the Cubs ( I know , a bad move ) but Wrigley is still heaven on earth, no matter how the team does. This would be my first attempt at this sort of league. My brother assures me that it's easy to install and easy to play. I'm serious about my baseball , I play fair, and I know the game. Hopefully, you'll give me a chance to join the fun. Eric Ernst

FB Experience: Challenge the Yankees (our first baseball game, purchased at Macy's in New York City 1964), APBA, Strat-O-Matic, and now newly discovered DMB (I've purchased a number of other baseball board games over the years just to check them out, but usually found them to be lacking in some key area)
Reason why: My brother and I have played baseball games (first board games and later computer games) for years. I've always wanted to compete against other owners (rather than just my brother and myself) who are interested in the game first and foremost as a baseball simulation (instead of playing the cards first as many Strat-O-Matic fans seem to). The opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a serious league in its initial draft would be ideal. My schedule is very flexible, I'd appreciate the opportunity to play games head-to-head on the net whenever possible and my brother also lives in town to serve as assistant GM and backup manager (we both currently live in Minneapolis, but I'd like to place a franchise in our hometown of Plattsburgh in the northeast corner of New York state, 60 miles south of Montreal, where we can draw fans from northern New York, Vermont and southern Quebec). In case my application is accepted, I've taken the liberty of starting to line up my management team. There's not a lot of work available for members of the original 1969 Montreal Expos, so I've already received enthusiastic responses from Coco Laboy (field manager), Bill Stoneman (pitching coach), "Le Grand Orange" Rusty Staub (clubhouse catering) and John Boccabella (bullpen coach). Formal contract signings and additional appointments are pending franchise application approval.

In addition, unlike many owners in today's world of professional sports, I vow to keep the team in Delafield (at least until such time as I can find a city ready to hike up its skirt and build me a stadium with all the fixings).

Why we should accept: I enjoy the game and the business aspect that the BDBL has placed on it. I am informed, competitive, and believe in the overall good of a league over one team. I also believe in the divine right of the Commissioner. A benevolent, fair commish is much better than a rules committee and dictatorial leader. I am looking to escape the tyrany of Commissioner Chuck Schafer. I usually bring a different view to the table and enjoy wheeling and dealing. I have been known to change over half of my 40 man roster between seasons (the EBA is a much more stagnant league with no mid-season trading prior to this year's two week window). My theory that hitting is 90% of the game (Pitching and fielding be damned!)makes for some great debates and trades. I also would be a fairly regular contributor to any e-mail discussion/debates.

Why we should accept: I should be accepted into the BDBL because I am a dedicated, serious player who is knows his baseball and will not miss a deadline. One of the main reasons I would like to join your league is because I was very much impressed with your set of rules. They make sense, retain playability and will most certainly keep things interesting. Why we should accept: Honestly, I've been following the web site for some time and just can't stand it any longer. This is the best web site I've ever seen for a DMB league and the league looks to be a blast. The writing is articulate and enjoyable. Actually, Mike, I wrote you earlier in the year and you gave me a hand with the NewsScroller (it works great - thank you, by the way) and I told you then the only thing that keeping me from applying to this league was a lack of time. Well, fortunately, a fellow owner in my own league and I were discussing the possibilities of putting together a hands-on league beginning next season. Then, I brought up your league and asked him if he'd be willing to team up and run a team in the BDBL should an opening arise. He was as excited by the possibility as I am. I think, between the two of us, we won't have any problems meeting deadlines and getting involved. I created the FJBL web site and John has created the web page for his team in our league. John also functions as our VP of Player Eligibility tracking DMB playing time vs that allotted in our league. If we were to be fortunate enough to receive a club, you'll get a well run team with a couple guys who have experience in contributing to successful leagues and who understand the internet well enough to be constant contributors to the web site. I appreciate your time and consideration. Please let us know what you think. Thanks!

Why we should accept: Who else would have the gall to trot out Dick Williams as their manager for the upcoming season, and Pete Rose and Tim Johnson as bench coaches? Who else would bring you the Havana Stogies (my current team), the Pennsylvania Fighting Amish or the Houston 69ers. I've been a baseball nut ever since I can remember watching Silvio Martinez and Joaquin Andujar pitch for the Cards as a kid. I had to suffer through Bob Horner in a Cards uniform, isn't that enough in and of itself to merit consideration? Besides, I throw left-handed anyway and could probably use myself in middle relief....

I've had no problems with the other GMs and have made several friends with whom I exchange e-mail on other than league matters as well as league matters. I feel I would fit in with your league because it offers more than drafting players and playing the games. The concept of salary management gives your league another dimension which appeals to me. I hope to hear from you soon as I have not applied to any other baseball league as the others don't appeal to me as your league does. Regardless whether you accept me or not I would like to compliment you on your web-site.

Why we should accept: i've been a member of the TRHL for almost five years now, and have been lauded for my sense of humour & activity both on the free agent front and in trades. Although i've always been a proponent of the idea that staying in just one league makes it more special, i have recently begun to want to join another league that has more of a sense of community than the TRHL has. i think Brian Hicks from the Madison Fighting Mimes might have been in the TRHL back in the day -- if he was, he might remember me. =) i feel an affinity for the Boise Bastards, and feel that not only can i can energize them back to the glory days of the Antioch Angels ('99 season), i can also bring them a BDBL trophy within three seasons. How's that for ballsy trashtalking?

FB Experience: 1 year playing ESPN Fantasy Baseball while also playing DMB replays on my one. Just completed my 2nd year in my current league. 1st year lost playoff game for final playoff spot. 2nd year made the playoffs but lost in the first round.
Why we should accept: I have been in my current league for 2 years. I have enjoyed it but now it is starting to appear very plain. The rules are very basic, which was good for my first league, but now I want to move on to something bigger and better. My current league has been very enjoyable, but some of the owners have become apathetic and there doesn't appear to be any attempt at continually improving the league. I'm looking for an UPGRADE!!!!! I have read your rulebook and feel this league is just what I want. Your schedule is expanded to help people with busy schedules and your rules are much more realistic in terms of there relationship to "real" baseball. I was looking for a league with some more difficulty in the rules. To help myself make a committment to the league I'm in, I limit myself to just one league. 2 years ago I started out joining a bunch of leagues and found I could never put in enough time as was needed. I felt that cheated not only myself, but the other teams and the general condition of the league. So, I'm looking for ONE high quality league which I can give all my baseball energy. Hope to hear from you soon.

FB Experience: I have run a Computer Baseball Club at the school I work at since the spring of 1998. It used DMB 7 for all but one of the seasons. The club had about 30 members each year and I run the league as a "centralized" type - running the games and posting the results. We have a salary cap, trade deadlines, line up forms, etc. Even before the club though I have played fantasy baseball on various computers going all the way back to the Commodore 64. I've also joined the free web type a few times - the ones that use the point system to determine which team is best - which isn't near as fun as head to head games on DMB.
Why we should accept: First off - I meet all of the above criteria. I check my email daily. I have the free time in the evenings or weekends to play games. I'm a baseball nut - It is the only sport I always follow. I've got to have a sense of humor to pay big bucks to Direct TV just so I can watch my beloved Red Sox fall short just before winning it all...year after year after year. My time is not a problem and I would be willing to contribute to the site and the league regulary. Since I have experience running a league I would also volunteer to help the commissioner with any duties. Thanks and please let me know if you get any openings in the future.

Why we should accept: I was a HUGE Pursue the Pennant player before Diamondmind bought them out and discontinued the table-top card game. I held a grudge against DMB for a while but I eventually got over it and purchased version 7 then version 8. I love baseball strategy (nobody understands that they aren't JUST standing around scratching themselves--they're scratching themselves AND spitting a lot!) and playing baseball in adult leagues in KC. I would play every game head-to-head. I would write a website for my team complete with fake press releases, photographs, stats, links, scratch-n-sniff hotdogs and peanuts (okay... so that last one is a lie!). League names: No URL unfortunately. I adopted a team from a league called the Hall of Fame Baseball League--it's advertised on Diamond Mind's site.
FB Experience: I've been playing some sort of fantasy baseball for 15+ years. At first I would play through the mail leagues and then eventually online with Fantasy Sports Northwest the last few years. I've always gravitated to league based, head-to-head games rather than contests. I want the players on my team to belong to me and only me. It makes trading a lot more fun. This year has been my first in a Diamond Mind league, though I've played the game before. It has been fantastic and I'm looking for other leagues to join for next season. I'm especially interested in larger leagues where you really have to dip into the talent pool.
Why we should accept: Passion. Put simply, I love baseball. But that alone isn't enough to make a good owner. I'm an owner who takes the game--both the real one and the simulated ones--seriously. I am dedicated and meticulous. I read publications and scouting reports before drafting or making trades. I'm aware of many hot propects long before they enter the major league horizon. And, I can be patient. If I inherit a team that has suffered some neglect and may not be doing so well, I can nurse it along and--hopefully--put a respectable club on the field in a couple of years. I can't guarantee a winner for my team, but I can guarantee that as an owner you couldn't ask for anything more.

FB Experience: I've been in multiple fantasy baseball leagues every year for the past 5 years and my teams usually finish in the money. I like to think I am very knowledgeable about the game of baseball and about how to build a winning team (at least that's what I tell my friends, whether it's true or not is a matter of ongoing debate). I must admit that I am a relatively new member in the Diamond Mind fraternity as I have owned the game only since the beginning of this year. This would be my first league experience, but I know that if given a chance I will become a solid owner.
Why we should accept: Being a Cubs fan, I will never get to experience a World Series that includes my favorite team. Therefore, I think you should take pity on me and allow me to strive for a World Series in the simulation world.

FB Experience: I began playing APBA and STRAT as a young man, replaying seasons and updating stats by hand. I played in several leagues through college, and began playing fantasy leagues in early 80s. I created / developed my own fantasy sports company called Die-Hard Sports in 1989, and operated for 7 years, and grew to running over 20 leagues in 1993. The game was based on a head-to-head statistical analysis format, rather than the common "rotisserie" style - a throw back to my roots - owners set rotations and bullpen and batting lineup, and participated in off-season protected player drafts, salary caps, etc. I folded my business 2 years after the 94 strike. Since then I have played a little fantasy the last couple of years .. and recently joined a ESPN Classic league, which sparked my interest in DMB and replay/simulation leagues, always my first love.
Why we should accept: My experience qualifies me to handle the complex nature of this league. My lack of any legitimate interests outside of sports gives me the time to dedicate. My wife seems to feel that is a shallow quality (?) The fact that I am a white man who commonly uses the team name Funkadelic is always a decent conversation piece. Thanks for your consideration.

Have commissionered both a board game league as well as a Rotisserie league and was looking to combine the two by getting involved with an auction/salary cap league based on Diamond-mind. Read your rulebook - sounds great!
Why we should accept: - Years of league participation. - Avid baseball fan (heck, I'll watch the Pirates play Tampa) - Active member - I provide suggestions and am willing to take a role in the league (probably can't devote the time to be a commish but can help with other governance functions such as compliance) - always within league dealines - willing to assist others as well as the commish (I'm running a vacant franchise in the UBL until a new owner is found) - chatted online with the commish of the UBL to review, improve and update the constitution - believe that the "win-win" deal is always better for the league and all involved than the "take advantage of" deal. Feel free to email me with any other questions.

Playing just 6 games a week was not enough, so i joined a bunch of other leagues of course inheriting dogs Had to take an emergency LOA JUne-Nov 2001and am back in the swing of things slo but sure
Why we should accept: I love baseball. Not as up to snuff about the minors as I need to be though at present. Am honest and PROMPT, and would respect the integrity of the league I would like to warn the other owners that Memphis is the home of the Redbirds, the AAA Cards franchise, and I am a season ticket holder. If anyone feels that this would give me an advantage in scouting minor league prospects, I would certainly understand. LOL However, using this as an excuse to blackball me from membership could result in legal action and perhaps the league's anti-trust status would have to be reviewed. I learned everything I know about building a franchise from Peter Angelos.........in case that influences anyone's decision. Lee
