I have tried to calm down over the last week or so. I finished the Allentown series and I tried to play another series this evening. Well, what a shock - game #1 - Halladay retires the side in the 1st, and after striking out the leadoff batter in the 2nd he walks the next batter and has to leave the game due to an injury, out for 12 games. This is a real blast guys, and so realistic. I'm not arguing the obvious any more -- you win - you want a random arcade game, fine, that's what we're playing. I suggest we play PS2 starting in chapter 3 instead of ver 9 - even more random. As for me, I've had enough. Something here is a crock of bullshit, in DMB or in BDBL, whatever -- but this "injury" crap with Halladay is wrong and no one else seems to give a damn. So now I don't. Halladay is now on the market - bring your offers. _________________ Steve Osborne Nashville Funkadelic Back to top SeaCats Double-A Joined: 10 Aug 2003 Posts: 414 Posted: 29 Mar 2004 11:23 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow, Steve...I'd say I feel your pain, but I don't think I ever have and even if I had I don't think it would mean a damn to you. Thanks for the offers guys. Nashville sends Roy Halladay, Lew Ford and Pedro Feliz to Stamford for Mark Buehrle, Hasegawa, Chad Harville and Ian Stewart. It was really hard to pick the right deal ... but I think this one gives us the right combination of prospects, while at the same time improving our bullpen enough to push us back in the race. _________________ Steve Osborne Nashville Funkadelic Back to top bigdaddy Site Admin Joined: 09 Aug 2003 Posts: 3018 Location: Salem, NH Posted: 30 Mar 2004 10:32 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- F you, Steve. The whole thing was orchestrated brilliantly, and I applaud you all for a job well done. The funny thing is, I had my traditional April Fool's page all written, ready to be posted, the day before "the trade", and it involved a trade of Halladay to the Zoots for Mark Buehrle and a few random crappy prospects. When I saw the trade announcement, I felt like I had been punched in the gut (which, I must admit, is the standard sensation I get whenever Stamford makes a trade.) For the first time since the 2001 playoffs, I felt like calling it quits. But in the back of my mind, I thought that it might possibly be a prank (even though it was a day early.) I'm always more than a bit paranoid at this time of the year. So I waited it out, to see what the league reaction would be. For the first time that I can ever remember, not one person (not even me) posted to this board. That tipped me off. Then, today, the same thing happened. I then knew something definitely didn't smell right. People were waiting for some sort of reaction from me. Sure enough, I got an e-mail from someone telling me I'd been "Funk'd". Then, just minutes ago, I got another e-mail from Steve, with some very impressive artwork. Steve, excellent job, my friend. You got me. Oh, and I'm sorry I called you "childish." Still, you have to admire my artwork as well, right? That picture will be posted in the BDBL Hall of Fame (along with the autographed baseball card of Mike Fitzgerald.) Good work, boys. But just remember: payback's a bitch. P.S. - Any chance that the Greg Myers trade was an April Fools prank as well? We all pulled together, and we broke one off in ya. We've got proof that we had you a good while! The only part that got screwed up was the timing on the finale this evening. Of all nights, I got hung at the park with an issue and missed the deadline, but hey -- not a bad effort. Yes, I was quite impressed with your cover page work – I got an email when it went up and I laughed myself to tears. This paragraph in itself Quote: NASHVILLE - In a childish overreaction to poor luck, Steve Osborne hastily traded Roy Halladay to the Zoots in order to get back at the league for not backing his idea to eradicate random injuries. is simply fine work. _________________ Steve Osborne Nashville Funkadelic Last edited by Kidd Funkadelic on 01 Apr 2004 11:42 pm; edited 1 time in total Back to top bigdaddy Site Admin Joined: 09 Aug 2003 Posts: 3018 Location: Salem, NH Posted: 01 Apr 2004 11:41 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You should feel lucky. I really thought the ultimate anti-April-Glander reverse would be to insist the trade go through out of spite. So, Mike -- here were our biggest fears ... or at least mine, since there's always chances of backfires when one pulls such an evil and brilliant stunt. (a) that you would run out and make a trade to counter the Halladay deal (and yes, we all know you were at work on that), and the owner would refuse to let you out of the deal ... (b) that you would break a lot of shit in your home and ask us to pay for it. _________________ Steve Osborne Nashville Funkadelic Author Message Kidd Funkadelic Double-A Joined: 10 Aug 2003 Posts: 432 Location: Tennessee Posted: 02 Apr 2004 12:08 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- bigdaddy wrote: Just curious: how many people were in on this? I was surprisingly calm, believe it or not. I lost a few hours of sleep the night the trade was announced, but aside from that, it didn't really affect me. I'm so used to this shit by now that nothing surprises me. I logged on this morning, hoping that someone would say, "April Fools," but when no one did, I sort of resigned myself to the fact that it must be for real. (Note: Just for historical reference, I honestly believed the Edmonds trade last winter was a practical joke for quite a long time before I became convinced that it wasn't.) I did make a trade offer to John, but it was a trade we had discussed before, and I was reluctant to pull the trigger, as it involved a huge chunk of my future. Though the "Halladay trade" gave me a kick in the ass, it didn't really affect my negotiation with him. I would have eventually revisited that negotiation either way. The Halladay trade merely accelerated the process. The part about the Halladay trade that didn't make sense to me was the inclusion of Hasegawa. That just didn't seem to make sense from either team's standpoint. But I figured Stamford had another trade in the works, and would be announcing their acquisition of someone like John Smoltz any day now. I was rebuilding while competing – I thought you would pick up on that. Of course it didn’t make sense. How did you like Lew Ford being included – I thought that was a nice touch. I wanted to included Sheffield, Paul didn’t want him. We negotiated on the fake deal about as long as I negotiate a real one. _________________ Steve Osborne Nashville Funkadelic Back to top Undertakers Double-A Joined: 10 Aug 2003 Posts: 497 Location: Los Altos, CA Posted: 02 Apr 2004 12:29 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Great job by everyone involved. If the goal here was to watch my head explode, all I needed was a tiny little push. I think it would have been funnier if one of you posted something about what a fair trade it was, because that would have really sent me over the edge. At first, I interpreted the total board silence as meaning that you were all as disgusted by the trade as I was, and had grown as disenchanted with the league as I was. But after 24 hours or so, I started to get a little suspicious. Back to top Kidd Funkadelic Double-A Joined: 10 Aug 2003 Posts: 432 Location: Tennessee Posted: 02 Apr 2004 09:34 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- True. Actually, the initial idea was mainly centered around a board blackout. But as it was planted several weeks ago, there was a lot of time to consider all the possibilities, and the Halladay situation just sort of took on a life of its own. Public approval of the deal would have been pretty funny. I figured if I could really sell my complete disgust with Halladay and DMB and the injury thing, that the dumping of Halladay to Paul as a revenge thing vs BDBL and you was pretty believable - and I think total league disgust or disinterest was the initial idea of forum blackout. I fully expected you to blow up on the 31st and start making phone calls and personal emails. _________________ Steve Osborne Nashville Funkadelic Back to top Kidd Funkadelic Double-A Joined: 10 Aug 2003 Posts: 432 Location: Tennessee Posted: 02 Apr 2004 09:41 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And for the record ... the only Halladay injury I made up was the last one, mentioned this week.
