With all due respect, if the trade of Lankford and Stottlemyre for next year's draft picks (TOTALLY worthless--and, no, I didn't forget that Chad Curtis is also in there) does not fall under the "too much for too little" clause, what on earth possibly could? The Nen deal is also terrible. Let's be realistic: Ben Davis has a chance, if things work out well, to be Charles Johnson circa 1997...eventually...maybe. And he may turn out to not even be Charles Johnson circa 1998. Plus, since he cannot be assigned to the farm roster (too much $$$$) he will have to be signed to a contract at the end of this year--and he's not even playing in the majors yet, even with the injury to Carlos Hernandez. Eric Valent played in A ball last year (less than impressively once he moved up to Clearwater) and Robert Person has never done anything to suggest that he can pitch at the major league level. I don't recall the exact details of the legendary April Fools trade, but I don't think (as one-sided as it was) that it was as unequal as either of these trades. I have looked and looked for some indication that these trades, too, are to be taken strictly in jest, but no luck so far. Please tell me I've just overlooked it someplace. Very concernedly yours, Tim
