Name: Steve
Osborne
Home Town: Hendersonville, TN
Age: 48
Birthday: March 24th
Occupation: Assistant Parks Director, Hendersonville Parks Dept.
Family: Married, with one son.
Hobbies: Sports, recreational play and watching. Competitive playing days
are all but over after 2 surgeries on neck in past 6 years. I am enjoying coaching my son
as he starts his career. I enjoy my rock and roll, and my funk. Saw P-Funk 7 times, went
to Berlin to see Roger Waters perform The Wall in 1990. Leisure and home entertainment
science fiction, the comedy of Monty Python and Richard Pryor, the music of Roger
Waters and Stevie Nicks.
Favorite teams: Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds
Fantasy baseball experience: APBA and STRAT, L&L Sports, Big Apple
Sports, ESPN. Created his own fantasy sports business in 1989, Die-Hard Sports. Lost his
business after baseball strike of 94 (hence his hatred of all things Selig and
Glavine.) Interest in DMB began with an entry in an ESPN Classic league. Currently
competing in BDBL, and retro leagues Seasons Past Baseball (1986) and Total Baseball
Association (1970).
Brush with fame: "Met and spoke briefly with George Foreman about 6
fights into his comeback; Martha Davis of the Motels sat on my shoulders briefly during a
CARS concert in 1980; I played in a 30+ baseball league in Florida in early 90s against
former players Dave Campbell (reliever with Atlanta), Steve Swisher and Roy Smalley Jr.
(went 8+ innings in a start against Campbell, losing 1-0 in the 9th); I am the son of
bluegrass legend Sonny Osborne (see Osborne Brothers and Rocky Top); I played
high school baseball against Tom Bolton; I am good friends with a fellow who punched
Bolton in the nose during a game the year after I graduated; my family vacation 2001
placed us exactly 5 blocks from WTC the morning of 9/11/01; I owe Lorrie Morgan $150; I
met Jamie Summers (not the bionic woman, the porn star); I very nearly took a swing at
Marty Stuart backstage at the Grand Ole Opry when I was 16; I took a leak in a urinal
beside Hank Williams Jr. backstage at the Opry while he sang 'Amazing Grace'."
Favorite spring training moments: "Living in Orlando for 7 years, I
spent most of March attending spring training games at as many different locations as I
could. Here are my top 5 memories
. {5} Greg Jefferies telling me to have sex with
myself after I suggested that his prior season destroyed my fantasy team; {4} Juan Agosto
trying to convince security to throw myself and a friend out of the stadium, just for
shouting Juan Disgusto, {3} sharing Pedro Borbon (sr) stories with Pedro
Borbon (jr), {2} standing in line for 2 hours in the cold and rain for tickets to see the
might Yankees and my favorite player at the time Jack Clark, watching him hit a ball in BP
so hard I thought it was going through the left field wall, then following that with a 500
foot moon shot, then taking 3 straight strikes in the top of the 1st and getting ejected,
most likely to get in out of the cold; {1} a friend and myself, well inebriated, taunted a
highly-regarded and underachieving ChiSox prospect for an entire afternoon, especially
after each of his 3 strikeouts, and when he homered off the scoreboard in the 9th he
deliberately took a very wide round of 3rd base, pointed us out, put his thumbs in his
ears and stuck his tongue out at us. Of course a couple years later he became a Cub, and
hes now called Sammy Sosa."
Quote: To get along with me, dont increase my tension
