Personal anecdote: "Doyle in Gallic means dark stranger and my ancestors are from Wexford County on the coast of Ireland. In 1588, part of the Spanish fleet sent to destroy the British wrecked off the coast of Ireland and many of the sailors were Spanish Moors. Some of the Spanish soliders married the Irish women and the descendants were known as the dark Irish.

"My great grandfather immigrated to the United States via Canada and was one of the leaders in unionizing the railroad industry as well as being gassed in the Argonne Forest during the war.

"I was educated by the Sisters of Mercy and the Jesuits before obtaining a law degree from the University of Notre Dame. I also have degrees in economics and philosophy from Rockhurst University, a small Jesuit college in Kansas City, Mo."
