Glad to see you are being an adult here. I've moved on...you should too. And, PS, you don't pick the awards. I told you who won MVP - Lowe and Lieberthal. That should be changed as well. But if you want to be a 2 year old dictator...it is your league. _________________ Winning isn't everything, its the only thing. It was a unanimous vote in the chat room the night you played in the World Series. Condrey was the key figure in that series. You were down two games to one, facing Curt Schilling against what should have been your #4 starter - either Danny Wright or Chuck Finley. But Condrey stepped in and blew away the Ridgebacks for six shutout innings, tying the series. Without that game, who knows whether or not the Zoots could have won Games Five, Six and Seven. We have a rule that specifically bans starting pitchers with fewer than 75 innings from pitching in the playoffs. Every single one of us knows what the true nature of that rule means. You decided to violate that rule. It was an illegal victory, and it shouldn't be counted. The asterisk is a reminder of that, and it will stay where it is for as long as I run this league. A "two-year-old" would cheat to win a championship in what is supposed to be a friendly competition. Maybe you need to rethink which one of us is the two-year-old. Here's why. During the regular season, Manny Ramirez hit .345 with an OPS of 1.061. In 447 at bats, he hit 30 doubles and 33 homers. In the World Series, he went 3 for 26 (that’s .115 for those without a calculator) with an OPS of .361. He hit 1 double, walked 3 times, and had ZERO rbi’s. This is despite coming to bat with THIRTY (30) men on base in the 7 games. I lost 3 games by 1 run and in those games, Ramirez personally left 18 runners on base! So Mike, if that asterisk represents a "black spot" that will forever taint Manny Ramirez's soul, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, you should probably remove it...... I agree with Tom. I totally agree with the assessment on Condrey, but that in no way should be reflected in this manner. _________________ Silicon Valley CyberSox Back to top STMZoots Double-A Joined: 11 Aug 2003 Posts: 312 Location: Basking Ridge, NJ Posted: 26 Nov 2003 11:53 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: I seriously doubt Maddux will be ready to go in Game Six. It was an interesting idea Paulie had to start Crudale, though. That option hadn't even occurred to me. Hmm... Was that me commenting you ask? Nope. That was our Commish...who later commented that it "took balls" to start Crudale in Game 6. No outrage. No name-calling. No asterisks proposed. And nothing would have been different if Matt won the series -- I think we all know that. I could put labels on that, but it's just not worth it. I'll just move on and leave it up to the league to decide...and if Mike doesn't care what I think, and doesn't care what you think, then, I guess, it's his league and his decision is final. In the end, its all just a fun hobby and its not worth ruining relationships over. So, Mike, and fellow league members, Happy Thanksgiving. I am going to spend time with my family now. Hope you all enjoy your time with your friends and family. Catch you all after the holiday. _________________ Winning isn't everything, its the only thing. I assumed he had 80-90 innings the previous season. Had Matt won the World Series with Crudale, or had Tom won with Middlebrook, there would be an asterisk next to their names as well. Typical Marazita defense. Deflect attention by pointing the finger at others and shouting "hypocrite." As much as you'd like it to be, my behavior is not relevant to this debate. I had a long talk with you the afternoon of that game, and I told you point-blank what I thought about your plans to start Condrey. Your response was, "I really don't care what you think. I'm going to start Condrey." If you don't care what I think, then you shouldn't mind the asterisk. If you can live with what you did, then you can live with the asterisk. Case closed. Happy Thanksgiving. I guess its about perspective. Anyway, contrary to the will of the league, if that is what you want -- like I said -- ultimately it is your league to be run by you as you see fit without any input from anyone. I don't think it makes for a successful long-term plan -- particularly when the foundation of this league has been full input by everyone -- but I guess we can try it this way (the Rule of One) and see how it goes. Happy Turkey everyone. Enjoy the time off. _________________ Winning isn't everything, its the only thing. I guess its about perspective. And I'm disappointed that you don't consider cheating to be a "huge thing." And yes, doing what you did is certainly a form of cheating. I'm disappointed that you don't acknowledge that, and insist that you did nothing wrong. I'm disappointed that you think it's okay to do something that was only legal because I neglected to strictly define the term for "starting pitcher" to the letter in the rulebook. Nothing in the rulebook says that you can't stop a game halfway through and start over again if you don't like the way it's going. That rule doesn't need to be written. We all understand that it's wrong. And if someone were to play that way, there would be no point in playing, right? We all voted and decided almost unanimously that pitchers like Condrey should not be starting in the playoffs. Obviously, doing so would be wrong. Obviously, you knew better. Obviously, you didn't care. You say the league is a blip. I say the asterisk is a blip. Maybe, with some perspective, you'll understand why that asterisk is there. Maybe, like Pete Rose, the Commish will give you a chance to remove that blip if you show any remorse at all over your actions. Maybe monkeys will fly out of my ass at warp speed. Who's to say what will happen? This league isn't based upon democracy. It's based upon sportsmanship and integrity. Without those two things, the game is not worth playing. Frankly, I'm appalled at the lack of support I've gotten over this. It boggles my mind that people suddenly seem to think that what happened is "okay". Sorry, but it's not okay. Now, I'm done talking about this (again.) This isn't a debate. It's over. I didn't kick you out of the league, and I didn't strip your championship away and hand it to Tom. I simply placed an asterisk next to your team's name on the History page. The flag still flies high and proud in Stamford. Case dismissed. (Again.)
